Jeran

Height:6'1
Weight:240 pounds

Previously, Jeran was in the military in a moderately-sized empire out on the edge of explored space. The instructors at boot camp wanted him in the Marines or the infantry, but he transferred into communications and computers to avoid being cannon fodder. He had the talent and inclination, and wound up being one of the better techs in the Signal Intelligence branch. His usual assignments were:

Being sensible, he took advantage of opportunities to learn things other than his particular specialty. After 10 years of service, he had learned capital ship weapons boards, a bit of helm and navigation, small-group cap-ship tactics, could fly just about any small craft in inventory well enough to get by and quite a few very well, had qualified on most of the Marine ground vehicles, was a good field medic, knew Marine armor and weapons well enough to not be a liability in a combat situation, was tagged as a senior damage-control officer and was pretty good at armed and unarmed hand-to-hand combat. By the end of his service, he had settled in as a First Lieutenant and wasn't inclined to go any higher. Much past that point and you needed political patronage and were expected to dole it out yourself, and he wasn't interested in playing that game. His stories from this period naturally involve the military. Some of them, like the one about how he acquired the callsign "Gadjo", are fairly light-hearted. Others, like how he got that scar along the outside of his leg, aren't fun at all and he's unlikely to bring them up.

When he finally left, thanks to his CO and the machinations of the head of the Maintenance division he wound up with a current-model, nearly fully-equipped Kestrel-36I interceptor, rigged for SigInt work. This served him well over the last 8 years, as he bounced around on merchant ships including a long tour on the hani can-hauler Meras' FarRunner. He's got more than a few stories about that period as well, like the cargo run where the most normal people in the crew were the captain and first officer, both vampires with cravings for chocolate-chip cookies in addition to blood.

He finally wound up in FurrySpace, where he hooked up with the Fyoraien Defense Force as a helm and tactical officer and whatever else was needed. He flys the modified heavy interceptor Gypsy Dancer when he needs to travel on his own.

One incongruous item about him is his musical inclination. He plays the flute and guitar well, and when he's relaxing he can often be found with one or the other practicing.

Personality-wise, Jeran's rather reserved. He'd rather complete strangers didn't go around hugging him for no reason, for instance. He's inclined towards a bit of formal politeness towards others, especially people he's just met. The common MUCK pasttime of TinySex with complete strangers doesn't appeal to him at all, although he doesn't object to others engaging in it. At worst, he simply filters them out. With friends and acquaintances, he's less reserved. He's not paranoid about it, but his interests in that area run strictly to females that he knows fairly well.

One thing Jeran shares with his player is being an inveterate tinkerer. If you've got something you want done, chances are he can figure out how to do it. If you're new and have questions, he's inclined to help you find answers. Just don't abuse that inclination with silly, pointless stuff or try to take advantage and make him do your work for you. Be reasonable and do as much as you can before asking and he'll do everything he can to help. Waste his time with jokes when you've just met him, or expect him to do the work so you don't have to, and you're likely to find yourself declared persona non grata and #ignored as thoroughly as he can arrange.
