Currently employed hacking C++ and Oracle for First Advantage CREDCO doing credit report processing and aggregation.
Previously employed hacking C code for WebSideStory, working on the software that handles responding to requests, serving up graphics and recording hits.
Previously employed as a computer software developer for Flying J Incorporated working on the point-of-sale systems in use at our travel plazas and truck stops. This involves lots of Unix, TCP/IP networking and database programming. Also lots of interfacing to various pieces of hardware ( gas pump controllers, card reader controllers, smart-card and smart-tag readers, keypad controllers, handheld computers for barcode scanning, bulk fuel tank level reading systems, just about you name it. ) and communicating to various credit-card authorization companies.
My interests range all over the place. I'm an omnivorous reader of most genres except Westerns and romances, although I'm not impressed with most of the best-sellers today. In particular I'm a hard science fiction and high fantasy fan. My CD collection runs the gamut from classical to rock to heavy metal to Celtic and New Age. I play piano and keyboards, but I've not had time to practice in long enough that I'm pretty rusty. For games, I tend to prefer strategy games or things that involve lots of thought, for example chess and I'm getting back into cribbage. For computer games, I'm starting in on Alpha Centauri and Starlancer, with the occasional leavening of Quake2. Flight sims, turn-based strategy and some first-person shooters for stress relief pretty much covers it.
Born in Pennsylvania, lived in the north-central part of the state along the west branch of the Susquehanah River ( between Lock Haven and Renovo ) for 7 years. Moved with my family to Tucson, Arizona and lived there up through college. Then I moved to northern Nevada, to the town of Elko, for about another 8 years. That was a mistake, but there was just enough work in my field that it wasn't apparent immediately. The only part I don't regret was being there when some crud went down in my family. I got out of Elko when I got an offer from Flying J and moved to Layton. As of the beginning of February 2001, I've accepted a job with WebSideStory in San Diego, CA.
My resume is on-line in HTML, rich text, ASCII text and MSWord formats. All current word processors should be able to read one or more of these formats just by opening the file.
For anyone interested, this is what the desktop of my computer looks like, at least when I've a relatively few apps open.
I've got a collection of photographs of various places and things where I live and work.
